Three Things You Must Do Before You Submit To Article Directories

To all writers and non-writers out there, now is the time to start digging up those creative writing skills. With modern communication technology comes the popularity of information-based marketing, which is one of the oldest and most effective techniques in getting targeted prospects to sites and converting them into buyers. This is

In the past few years WordPress has become the standard blog publishing platform because of its ease of use, rich feature set, available plugins, and standards compliance. Of course, the fact that its free and open source hasnt hurt either.

While developers have flocked to using WordPress as their blogging platform of choice, its often overlooked as a content management platform for non-blog sites. WordPress allows you to create pages that are automatically are added to the sites navigation bar and can be customized by a PHP programmer to handle just about any task youd want to accomplish with a site. Free themes and plugins can help reduce programming and design costs immensely, and with a little work WordPress can be customized to automate many of the most arduous SEO tasks. The result is a powerful and easy to use search engine friendly publishing platform that eliminates the majority of both upfront and ongoing SEO work.

Since WordPress is already very standards compliant, you and your programmer dont need to worry about proper HTML formatting thats all taken care of for you. There are, however, a few simple steps that should be taken to turn your WordPress site into the ultimate search-optimized site.

You can download all of the themes and plugins mentioned below from the WordPress site or by doing a quick Google search.

Create Unique Title Tags

Search Engine Optimization firm SEOmoz recently polled 37 of the best SEOs about what factors influence Googles algorithm. The NUMBER ONE factor influencing a high ranking was Keyword Use in Title Tag. For that reason alone you want your Title Tag to include the most relevant keywords related to your post. Unfortunately WordPress defaults to having your site title as the first thing in your Title Tag. Ideally youd have a customizable page title show up first.

For example, if your company named Cool Designs is located in New York and has a Web Design page, the Title Tag New York City Web Design Cool Designs is more likely to rank high for NYC-related web design queries than a page that has Cool Designs Web Design as the Title Tag. Fortunately WordPress has a SEO Title Tag plugin that allows you to customize each Title Tag.

Turn on Permalinks

The default WordPress post or page has a permanent link that looks like http://www.yoursite.com/?p=123. This is whats called a dynamic URL - a URL that uses variables in the URL to determine the page content. In this case the p variable determines what is shown when the page is loaded. And while dynamic URLs are efficient for programming, they arent exactly search engine or user friendly.

Years ago search engines had trouble indexing dynamic URLs. Thats not necessarily the case anymore (although you might as well remove all doubt), but static URLs like http://www.yoursite.com/keyword-filled-post-title/ still offer several advantages. The primary advantage is the cleanliness of the URL, which really has nothing at all to do with search rankings. A URL with real words in it (as opposed to numbers and question marks) is much more enticing for people to click on when search results are returned, and consequently is much easier for them to remember when re-visiting your site. Having relevant keywords from your post in your URL can also have a slight impact in boosting your rankings for those key words.

This change can be done with URL rewriting. Normally doing this requires quite a bit of programming effort. Not with WordPress. Just go to Options -> Permalinks and change your default structure to the date and name based structure.

Create Sitemaps

Both HTML sitemaps (a page that lists links to every other page on your site) and XML sitemaps (a file that lists all of the pages on your site for search engine spiders) can aid immensely in getting every page on your site indexed by all of the search engines. Automating each type of sitemap usually requires a few hours of programming for most sites. Of course, WordPress has a HTML sitemap plugin and a XML sitemap plugin that does all of the work for you. After creating the XML sitemap, be sure to submit it to Google and Yahoo to access extensive crawling information about your site.

Install Analytics

All of the traffic in the world isnt worth very much if you arent converting any of it to sales, leads, newsletter signups, or whatever the goal of your site may be. Google Analytics has become the premiere analytics software because of its simple and customizable interface, breadth of features, and price (free). In addition to the normal important analytics metrics visitors, unique visitors, page views, new/returning visitors, traffic sources, most viewed content, etc Google Analytics has goal tracking and e-commerce revenue tracking so you can see exactly where each conversion is coming from. After signing up for an account, the Google Analytics plugin for WordPress will have you up and running in minutes.

If you also use WordPress for its blogging capabilities, youll want to install the Sociable plugin and sign up for a Feedburner account to make sure you get the most out of your blog. Sociable allows people to submit your posts to social bookmarking sites like Digg, del.icio.us, Furl, Technorati, reddit, and StumbleUpon, which can be VERY effective for promoting extremely viral sites and articles. Feedburner (www.Feedburner.com) offers a plethora of advancements to your RSS feed for your posts, but from a SEO standpoint the most important thing is to configure it to automatically ping search engines and blog directories. This ensures that your posts always get indexed, and usually gets them indexed fast.

There you have it a perfectly optimized site using WordPress and other free tools in about a hundredth of the time it would take you if you built it from scratch!

Viral marketing is a methods of list building

There are multiple methods of list building, and if you are just getting started, until you have gained mastery over one or two methods, it is advisable to use multiple methods of list building strategies. You’ll see every step of the process, no matter how small, in exacting detail so

Time management and organization is incredibly crucial to your success online. I have personally found the key to my success simply in my daily routine. It is the things that I consistently do on a daily basis. Advertising online is not a one time deal. It takes placing advertising in various places over the web every single day, even it is only for half an hour each day. Too many people get caught up in doing something once, receiving some return on that work, and then failing to continue to do what they did that one day to produce those results on a daily basis.

If you have many places you place ads on a regular basis then keeping track of them can be a big headache. For example, say you have one place you can send an e-mail advertisement every seven days, another place you can send every 48 hours, and another place you can send every 72 hours. It can get even more complex than that when you start adding on more, such as a lot of different safelists that limit you to mailing every so many days or hours, or possibly even advertisements you place on certain days of the week, or solo ads you send once a month. There are also tasks you will need to do on a daily basis, and keeping track of these is just not as simple as one would hope.

If you have had this problem, or expect that you will...more likely than not, I am happy to pass on the solution to you. Now I don't own this neat little program and I'm not even an affiliate for it, so I get absolutely nothing for recommending it to you, but that is how strongly I believe in being organized with your online marketing. The name of the program I use is called EssentialPIM. You can download it for free at EssentialPIM.com. That's right, I use the free version and it does everything I need so you don't need to upgrade.

The nice thing about it is you can add new tasks, and these tasks can be recurring for an unlimited time. So if you have a safelist you are going to send an ad to every 48 hours, create a new task with the name of the safelist telling yourself to mail to it and have it repeat. Now you can see it in the schedule for the day and even get a reminder about it if you want. Now there is no more confusion of keeping track of what to do and when! Most importantly you will now be following a daily routine. Want to encourage yourself to surf traffic exchanges for an hour every 3 days? Then all you have to do is add a task and have it remind you every three days. This way you will begin getting the things done that are needed to experience the success you have always wanted.

Another important task is to give yourself time to learn something new every week. If you are always learning something new and constantly expanding your marketing and advertising knowledge you will be on a very successful road. Knowledge and consistency is the key!

Have you ever picked up one of your favorite books, skimmed through the beginning, then didn't stop reading until you were on chapter 10?

That's your number one technique for writing effective articles:

1. Captivating introduction
I guarantee that's a book that had a good introduction! Try to captivate your readers to read on. What good is an article if no one gets past the first paragraph?

2. Benefit driven headline, something quantitative
7 benefits of this, 4 tips of that, something with a definable characteristic they know they will be getting more information about.

3. Benefit-driven subheadings
You are providing information for the reader, but focus on benefits, not just features. Don't just say, "This widget has five arms." Focus on benefits, such as, "More family time: This widget does the dishes and the laundry at the same time.

4. No need to keyword-cram
Contrary to popular belief, you do not need to lower the quality of your writing by cramming keywords for a particular density. (If you don't know what I'm talking about, then don't worry about it.) All you need to do is have your keyword in title, a couple of times in intro, and mention it in conclusion.

5. Call to action
Make a strong close that encourages them to take action now. Do not delay, convince them that if they do not take action now, they will be missing out. Try not to sound salesy. This is an informative article.

6. Author's Resource Box
This is where you can sell yourself. Again, make it benefit driven, give them a reason to visit your website that if they don't they will be missing out on something great. I recommend making each one a little different to give it more relevant to your article subject. It's always good to offer free information or a no-risk proposition.

Something like,

Jane Doe is an experienced internet entrepreneur who coaches like-minded individuals to success.

7. Be consistent!
Publish new content once a week or once a month. Honestly, the time frame should fit with your schedule. If you want to be aggressive, do one article per week. Less so, one article per month. Just be consistent. This looks good for publishers and readers.

I recently signed a new client for Search Engine Optimization Services (thats what we do). The problem, same as always was she wanted $10,000 worth of optimization on a $200 a month budget. I was groovin on her style and liked her can do attitude. We put together a program.

She has a unique selling proposition, competitively priced products, and is in a relatively crowded marketspace. Her website was built on the cheap, but is structurally sound. Shes been playing around with FrontPage and can at least create new pages from old ones, change images, add new content and publish her changes.

Sounds good so far. Right? Just enough knowledge to get into trouble!

Leonardo Da Vinci once said Savage is he who saves himself. So in the spirit of Hollywood heres the Da Vinci Code for helping out your SEO Expert, reducing your Search Engine Positioning costs and maximizing your website return on investment.

This is a recipe so to speak, so follow the instructions.

Da Vinci Code #1

Existing Content. Using your favorite HTML editor (well use FrontPage for this exercise) do some basic on page SEO. Using the bold feature (the B at the top of the page) bold the keywords in your content. Dont do crazy, but try to highlight at least 3 or 4 times per page. Feel free to mix it up for readability and use italics instead of bold (the I at the top of the page). Just like your reader, the search engines take notice of words in bold and italics when used for emphasis.

Da Vinci Code #2

Find the hidden treasure in your images. Search engines could care less about your images or what your site looks like. To them theyre just code. So give them the code theyre looking for. Using the right click button, right click on your favorite image, select Picture Properties, click on General. Give your image a name related to your keywords, example: search_engine_optimization.jpg. Put at least one keyword in the text section, then write a keyword rich description of the image. Now the search engines can read the code of your image.

Da Vinci Code #3

New Content. Hopefully your SEO Expert will have done some in depth keyword research for you. Pick 10 keywords that you want to target. Now create a page for each keyword set. Start creating a new page of content from one of your existing pages in FrontPage by highlighting the HTML file in the left hand column. Right click and select New from Existing Page. This preserves your existing layout and saves you from having to recreate a whole new layout/theme if youre not experienced with CSS.

I know that every SEO guru and web design grandmasters head just exploded, but remember this is YOU saving YOU, not THEM billing YOU. You can fix the architecture when you start realizing gains from your efforts.

Start writing. I prefer to divide my keywords up into three tiers. (1) The keyword you use thematically throughout your site the tough one that everybody is chasing (link a few of these back to your home page see #4). Search Engine Optimization). (2) The keyword that THIS page is about Example: Pay Per Click. (3) A localized version of both Example: Arizona Search Engine Optimization and Scottsdale Pay Per Click.

Da Vinci Code #4

Link Building. Charity begins at home. Make sure you have an internal linking strategy. Link back from internal content pages to your home page or to other internal content pages. In Front Page, make sure to take advantage of the Screen Tip function (in the top right hand corner of the hyperlink popup box). Put in the keyword relevant to that hyperlink. Link building is a science to a certain degree, but you can help out your SEO Expert by going old school. Ask your suppliers, customers and friends who have websites to link to your site then mix and match when those sites are linking to your site. Dont have every link go straight to your home page.

Da Vinci Code #5

Become an Expert. Believe it or not, someone out there actually is looking for the knowledge and experience you already have. Write an article for your blog, share it with your competitor, syndicate it (ask your SEO or emarketing consultant about strategy here). This is great for the double whammy of link building and traditional how to marketing. Check out Ezinearticles, GoArticles or Article Sender. They are good places to start becoming an expert. Include these articles or press releases as new pages of content on your site.

If you are willing, and have the time, you can help your SEO Expert make you successful and reduce your costs. Always remember that Search Engine Optimization is an ongoing process and results take time, so be patient. And be savage about it!

Nervous about starting your article marketing campaign? Don't be! Because technically, you have got nothing to lose in this technique. So long as you know how to produce quality articles or you have the resources to pay somebody to do it for you, you will surely rise above the rest. Here are the 3 key secrets to jumpstart your article marketing:

1. Do your research. What are the topics to write about? Well, the best topics for you are those that concern your potential clients and are relevant to the products or services you offer. Some of the best article marketers go to forums and they communicate to their potential buyers. Through this, marketers will get an idea about the pressing issues that their customers are facing. Then, they create articles based on the data they gathered and present their products as solution. This is a foolproof method in making sure that your articles are targeted to your chosen niche.

2. Consider some important elements when writing your articles. This is to make sure that your articles will be accepted by most publishing sites. Make sure that you don't use too many keywords or your articles will be rejected for keyword abuse. Also, make your articles at least 250 words and ensure that all links on your resource box are working. Lastly, never insert hyperlinks on the body of your articles. This is one of the common reasons why articles are rejected by publishing sites.

3. Write articles that are easy to understand. Your success in article marketing will largely depend on how well your readers can understand you. So make it a point that you make it easier for them to digest the information you are presenting. To do this, you can use various formats like questions and answer, how-tos, and numbered list when presenting your ideas.

Perhaps you have just created a web page and you have found that it is not creating enough hits that you thought it would have created by now. This may be because you are not using enough SEO scripts on your web page.

When you using Search Engine Optimization you will want to have about 5% of 250 words in your article focused on the keyword. The keyword would be what you are wanting to search engine to find on your website. You will have to find the time to calculate how much keyword density is used throughout your site, you can do this easily by finding a keyword density calculator, or maybe you could do this by looks.

If you are not able to include the exact phrase in part of your text you will at least want to try and aim to get the word close to what your keyword is. Your keywords will not be picked up at all if you dont at least aim close to it. Try not to bury your keyword text at the bottom of your page as well, always try to include it in the top and also, when you are using the keyword try not to use it TOO many times in your text, this can create a negative effect from what you are looking for.

Keywords are the main source when it comes to the text on your web page being found more often in a website. If you are looking for your web page counter to rack up in hits then you may want to try SEO and put a lot of those keywords on your page. Also remember that when you are focusing on your SEO you may be taking the time away from your regular web page usability, so watch out and keep your web page up to date as well.
